Is Bible Corrupted as Quran Claims?

Is Bible Corrupted as Quran Claims?

no — the Bible is not considered corrupted, even though the Qur’an claims that earlier scriptures were altered.

1. What the Quran says.

  • God originally gave true revelations to Moses (Torah) and Jesus (Injil)
  • Jews and Christians later corrupted or altered those scriptures

2. What the Bible says

  • The Bible gives an explicit and severe warning of hell against adding to or subtracting from God’s revealed word. Because of this, those entrusted with Scripture treated it with extreme fear and care, seeking to preserve every word faithfully rather than alter it. (Revelation 22:18–19“If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city.”)also (Deuteronomy 4:2; Psalm 119:89)
  • The Bible is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16)
  • God preserves His word (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35)
  • Jesus affirmed the authority of the Old Testament available in His time
  • Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would guide the apostles into truth (John 16:13)
  • Bible was expensive(price of a house) so it was treasured and kept at pristine conditions. (in temples churches and synagogues)

From the biblical worldview,

God would not allow His revelation to be lost or corrupted, because that would undermine His faithfulness.

3. Manuscript Evidence! (this is crucial)

Bible

  • Over 24,000 ancient manuscripts (in Hebrew, Greek, Latin)
  • Some manuscripts date within decades of the originals
  • The Dead Sea Scrolls (3rd century BC–1st century AD) confirm the Old Testament we have today is unchanged!
  • Variations exist, but they are minor (spelling, word order) and do not change doctrine

Qur’an

  • Early Qur’anic manuscripts do show differences
  • Caliph Uthman standardized one version and destroyed others
  • This is acknowledged in Islamic history sources

So historically speaking:

The Bible has stronger textual transparency and preservation evidence than the Qur’an

4. A major internal problem in the Qur’an’s claim

The Qur’an:

  • Says the Torah and Gospel were from God
  • Commands Muhammad to consult the People of the Book if in doubt (Qur’an 10:94)
  • Says no one can change God’s words (Qur’an 6:115)

This creates a logical tension:

  • If God’s word cannot be changed,
  • And the Torah and Gospel were God’s word,
  • Then claiming they were corrupted later creates a contradiction. So Quran is False!

Historically, the Bible we have today is the same one that existed before Islam.

5. Why Islam makes the corruption claim

Most scholars (including neutral historians) agree:

  • The corruption claim arose because the Bible contradicts Islamic theology, especially on:
    • Jesus being the Son of God
    • The crucifixion
    • Salvation by grace
  • Rather than revising Islamic doctrine, later scholars claimed the Bible was altered.

The charge of corruption is just a claim, not historical. with no evidence of what or where is it corrupt.

6. Bottom line

  • Historically: No credible evidence the Bible was corrupted
  • Textually: Bible manuscripts are extremely well preserved
  • Logically: The Qur’an’s claim conflicts with its own statements
  • Theologically: Christianity affirms God preserves His word

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” — Isaiah 40:8
